Kicking off the year with a Grammy nomination for Best Country Album, country-pop star Kelsea Ballerini is switching things up, teasing a new album and a new era coming right up. Renewing her contract with Black River Entertainment, she marks a decade of success with the small independent label rooted in Nashville. Sharing how the label respected her vision as an artist, she hopes to continue sharing wins and success just as a family. Now, we can expect greater things from the country star, and that includes projects that go beyond music.
"Black River has always handled my music with the utmost care since signing with them over a decade ago," Ballerini shared in an official release. "They’ve never wavered in respecting my vision as an artist, offering me the freedom to be creative and push boundaries. We share our wins and successes like family, and our renewed agreement reflects just that."
In 2023, Ballerini released her latest EP "Rolling Up the Welcome Mat", inspired by thoughts about her divorce. The record became an instant hit, garnering several award nominations. At the same period, she became a Covergirl spokesperson, featured in Time Magazine's TIME100 Next, and held her first headlining arena concert. What a year it had been for the iconic country star indeed.
In a conversation with Variety, her manager Jason Owen and Black River CEO Gordon Kerr shared their thoughts on renewing the singer's contract, and a couple of future plans for the star. "Everyone and their mother has been stalking me for the last year, knowing that her deal was coming up and wanting in," Owen said, sharing how other major labels have been knocking on their door, but these invitations were not once considered.
"It’s great to be able to continue the relationship in a place where I feel safe to just do whatever feels right," Ballerini said, noting her creative freedom with Black River. "I feel like I want that for every artist, and I’m so glad that I have that here."
Over the next few months, we can expect a new album announcement and a couple of news that surround the artist involving the entertainment industry, as teased.
"Knowing that the love of my life is writing music and making records, I’ll always guard and protect that the most, but I am so interested in ‘what else?’ — because, why not?" Ballerini shared.
